Changelog
What’s new in Stowly
Stowly is built and maintained by one person. Here’s what has shipped recently — updated as things land.
September 2026
Know what your insurer would actually pay — and whether you're covered.
- Estimated value today — Stowly now shows the depreciated value of your things alongside what you paid, so you can see what an insurer would likely settle at rather than what it cost you. Based on a published consumer-advocacy depreciation schedule, with the assumption shown for every item — and you can flag things that hold their value, like jewellery or art, so they're not depreciated.
- Safety recall alerts — Stowly now checks your things against the U.S. CPSC recall database and tells you if something you own is affected. A confident match — by barcode, or by brand and model — is flagged on the item, on your dashboard, and sent to you by email with a link to the official CPSC notice; a looser brand match shows a quieter heads-up on the item to check yourself. Free for everyone, because safety shouldn't sit behind a paywall.
- Coverage gap — enter your policy's contents limit and Stowly tells you whether your belongings are actually covered. (Plus)
- Claim readiness — see how well-documented your inventory is and what's still missing, item by item, and add a missing receipt or photo in a tap.
- Return windows by retailer — say where you bought something and Stowly suggests the standard return window, including the category exceptions that catch people out (Home Depot gives 90 days on most things and 48 hours on major appliances).
- Export reminders — a nudge when your insurance PDF has gone out of date, so you're not relying on a document that no longer reflects what you own. (Plus)
- Household reminders for everyone — in a shared household, warranty and return reminders and the weekly digest now go to every member, not just the account owner, so the person who actually uses something is the one who hears about it. Each person's own notification settings are respected, and safety recall alerts reach the whole household too.
- Scan a receipt to fill in the details — attach a photo of a receipt and Stowly reads the store, date, total, and the item's brand and model, and offers them as suggestions you confirm (it never fills anything in silently, and shows you which ones to double-check). The store flows into the return-window suggestion, and a confident brand and model help match your item against safety recalls. (Plus)
- A new guide on retailer return windows, and why 90 days sometimes means 48 hours.
August 2026
Sharing your inventory with an insurer, and two free tools that need no account.
- Read-only share links — send your inventory to an insurance adjuster, a family member, or an executor. They see your items, photos and values without needing an account, and you can revoke the link at any time. (Plus)
- Free home contents value calculator — estimate what your belongings would cost to replace, room by room. No account needed.
- Free warranty expiration tracker — work out which of your warranties have lapsed and which are about to. No account needed.
- Annual plans are now better value — Plus dropped to $39/year and Pro to $79/year, around 35% off monthly.
- New guides: settling an estate, storage units, documenting jewellery and collections, choosing a free home inventory app, and honest comparisons with Sortly and HomeZada.
- An About page, so you know who's building this.
July 2026
The biggest month yet — Google sign-in, family sharing going live, and the tools to keep an inventory current rather than just start one.
- Sign in with Google — one click instead of a form, alongside the existing email and password.
- Family sharing went live — invite your household to one shared inventory, with a single plan covering everyone. (Pro)
- Activity history — see what changed, when, and who changed it. (Pro)
- Stocktake mode — walk a room and check off what's actually there, one item at a time.
- Quick-add and starter templates for fast entry, plus custom item templates you can save yourself. (Pro, for custom templates)
- Missing proof-of-purchase alerts — Stowly flags valuable items with no receipt attached, so you find the gaps before you need them. (Plus)
- Weekly digest email, plus a configurable lead time so you're warned as far ahead as you like before a warranty or return window closes.
- Currency support — pick from 16 currencies and see your inventory's value in yours, formatted correctly (including currencies that don't use decimals) — and a date-format preference, including day-first and ISO formats.
- Delete your account yourself — a proper danger zone in Settings that removes your account, items and photos for good, with an export-first prompt, plus a new "Your data" section that makes CSV export, import and the insurance PDF easy to find.
- Bulk photo upload with inline removal, printable single-item sheets, and a guided welcome and checklist for new accounts.
- Feature pages with short demo videos, and new guides: spreadsheets versus apps, running a stocktake, home inventory for renters, and documenting a break-in.
